Biochemical Analysis by Calcium Determination on the Newly Formed Bone in Critical Bone Defects Submitted to Different Treatments: A Pilot Study International Journal of Morphology
Issa,Joao Paulo Mardegan; Petenusci,Sergio Olavo; Siéssere,Selma; Regalo,Simone Cecilio Hallak; Lopes,Ruberval Armando; Di Matteo,Miguel Ángel Sala; Iyomasa,Mamie Mizusaki; Defino,Helton Luiz Aparecido.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the calcium dosage of the newly formed bone, in critical bone defects created on the calvarial tissue and filled by different substances, in male Wistar rats. A cylindrical critical bone defect (6x2mm) was created in the posterior portion, left side, on the calvarial bone in nine animals and filled with: animals' coagulum, monoolein gel, poloxamer gel, monoolein gel + 1µg rhBMP-2, monoolein gel + 3µg rhBMP-2, monoolein gel + 7µg rhBMP-2, poloxamer gel + 1µg rhBMP-2, poloxamer gel + 3µg rhBMP-2, poloxamer gel + 7µg rhBMP-2. The results of this study showed a positive correlation between the calcium dosage analysis and the newly formed bone

Bovine Bone Matrix Action Associated With Morphogenetic Protein in Bone Defects in Rats Submitted to Alcoholism International Journal of Morphology
Buchaim,Rogério Leone; Andreo,Jesus Carlos; Rodrigues,Antonio de Castro; Buchaim,Daniela Vieira; Roque,Domingos Donizeti; Roque,José Sidney; Rosa Júnior,Geraldo Marco.
Extended excessive alcohol use causes changes in bone tissue, thus affecting osteogenesis. The objective of this study was to evaluate if demineralized bone matrix (Gen-ox®) associated with bone morphogenetic protein (Gen-pro®) changes bone neoformation in rats submitted to experimental alcoholism. Forty male rats (Rattus norvegicus) were separated into 2 groups of 20 animals each: Group E1, which received ethyl alcohol at 25% and had the surgical cavity filled in only with blood clot; and Group E2, which received ethyl alcohol at 25% and had the surgical cavity filled in with demineralized bovine cortical bone associated with bone morphogenetic protein. The animals were submitted to a three-week period of gradual adaptation to alcohol, and then continued...

Early Osseous Tissue Formation Associated to Submerged and Non-Submerged Dental Implants: A Histomorphometric Animal Study International Journal of Morphology
Olate,Sergio; Chaves Netto,Henrique Duque de Miranda; Mazzonetto,Renato; Albergaria-Barbosa,Jose Ricardo de.
The purpose of this research was to compare the bone formation around submerged and non-submerged implants installed in a mandible of dog. Seven beagle dogs were used in this protocol; initially, was performed extraction of posterior teeth of mandible and after 3 month healing were installed two dental implants with surface treatment (subtraction of titanium via acidification) in each hemimandible. A transmucosal healing screw of 7 mm without oclusal contact was installed at the anterior implant as a model of non-submerged implant; in the posterior implant were installed a cover screw, using the submerged technique. After six weeks of healing, histomorphometric analysis of osseous tissue between the threads was performed. Was analyzed the implant unit as...

Evaluation of cardiovascular toxicity of carbon nanotubes functionalized with sodium hyaluronate in oral regenerative medicine BJMBR
Joviano-Santos,J.V.; Sá,M.A.; De Maria,M.L.A.; Almeida,T.C.S.; Geraldo,V.; Oliveira,S.; Ladeira,L.O.; Ferreira,A.J..
It has been demonstrated that carbon nanotubes (CNTs) associated with sodium hyaluronate (HY-CNTs) accelerate bone repair in the tooth sockets of rats. Before clinical application of HY-CNTs, it is important to assess their biocompatibility. Moreover, cardiac toxicity may be caused by the translocation of these particles to the blood stream. The aim of this study was to evaluate possible changes in cardiovascular function in male Wistar rats whose tooth sockets were treated with either CNTs or HY-CNTs (100 μg/mL, 0.1 mL). Blood pressure and heart rate were monitored in conscious rats 7 days after treatment. Cardiac function was evaluated using the Langendorff perfusion technique. The data showed no changes in blood pressure or heart rate in rats treated...

Osteoinductive Potential of the rhBMP-2 in Soft Tissues International Journal of Morphology
Issa,Joao Paulo Mardegan; Nascimento,Cássio do; Barbosa,Rodrigo Edson dos Santos; Iyomasa,Mamie Mizusaki; Albuquerque Junior,Rubens Ferreira de.
The rhBMP-2 is an osteoinductive protein used in the reconstructive with the objective to create newly formed bone. The aim of this study was to confirm the rhBMP-2 osteoinductive capability, when implanted in soft tissues. The results showed that the protein used in this study is highly osteoinductive

Variation in the Repair of a Rib Graft used for Mandibular Reconstruction after 20 years International Journal of Morphology
Pozzer,Leandro; Olate,Sergio; de Moraes,Márcio; Asprino,Luciana; Barbosa,José Ricardo de Albergaría.
Mandibular reconstruction has been used in the last 100 years as a safe, effective and stable technique. Various types of grafts have been used, including the autogenous rib graft; the normal repair of this type of graft has been defined in some studies although some observations have been made indicating low predictability of the growth of this bone. The aim of this study was to report the case of a patient with a rib graft for mandibular reconstruction where after 20 years cartilaginous tissue was observed exclusively in the absence of bone tissue. A 61-year-old female patient presented in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Service for dental implants. The patient had a history of 4 previous mandibular reconstructions; imaging showed no alterations to...
